Geoitalia 2009 - Corso Breve “Dal mantello alle camere magmatiche” |

|
Rimini
|
| 2009 09 7-8 |

2009 AIV International Summer School of Volcanology |

|
Nisyros (Greece)
|
| 2009 09 24-29 |
The school is aimed at providing the scientific background for the different mechanisms of magma eruption and emplacement, and their relationships with the pre-eruptive magmatic processes. Nisyros and the adjoining islands in the Southern Aegean Active Arc, represent a wonderful key area for fulfilling the aim of the school due to the presence of a large variability of volcanic products.
In the six days the school will be scheduled in thematic field workshops and class lectures regarding the following topics:
the evolution of the South Aegean Active Arc, magma mingling evidences in lava flows and domes, explosive eruptions and their deposits in submarine and subaerial environment, hydrothermal activity and geothermal energy, epiclastic deposits in volcanic terrains, geological mapping and GIS applications in volcanic areas , monitoring networks, volcanic hazard and risk assessment at dormant volcanoes.
The ideal participants to the school will be graduated students, PhD students and post-docs in volcanology.

Scuola AIC "Scattering techniques: from microscopic to atomic structures" |

|
Camerino (MC)
|
| 2009 08 30 - 09 04 |
Properties of materials strongly depend on their structure. Diffraction techniques and Crystallography are traditionally recognized as the ideal nanoprobe to reconstruct and “image” the atomic arrangement of ordered systems. The advent of highly brilliant and coherent radiation sources along with advanced computational methods have widened new, appealing horizons of diffraction-related methodologies to fields traditionally seen as the “world” of other techniques. In fact, a growing attention has been devoted to the potential of hard X-Ray to image non periodic objects or to investigate, at different length scales, composite and supramolecular systems showing complex, hierarchical architectures.
The purpose of the School is to run a thread through different Scattering and Imaging Techniques, each able to investigate the structure of materials at different length scales, from the micro to the atomic level and beyond.
Basic theoretical principles will be treated for each technique and several fields of application will be presented: Chemistry, Physics, Material Science, Mineralogy, Biology and Medicine.

XAFS 14 Conference |

|
Camerino (MC)
|
| 2009 07 26-31 |
The aim of the conference is the discussion of the state-of-the-art in X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (XAFS) and related techniques. Experimental and theoretical issues will be covered.
The wide range of topics touched in the conference includes: EXAFS, NEXAFS, XANES, DAFS, SEXAFS, EELFS, XMCD and Auger spectroscopies, microspectroscopy and spectro-microscopy, resonant photoemission, resonant and non-resonant inelastic X-ray scattering, time-resolved XAFS and diffraction. The conference is of interest for chemistry, physics, materials science, biology, earth sciences, environmental science, catalysis, nano-science, disordered systems, surfaces and interfaces, magnetic materials, gas phase, theory development (ab initio calculations, EXAFS and DAFS simulations), instrument development, novel applications, applications at 4th generation light sources. In this 2009 conference, specific symposia on hot topics such as ultrafast time-resolved spectroscopy, slicing schemes and free electron lasers in the X-ray and UV-XUV domains will be organized.
