Scuola GNM 2015 "La fisica dei minerali: implicazioni geologiche e applicazioni pratiche"

La Scuola si rivolge a dottorandi, assegnisti ma anche a laureandi della Laurea Magistrale intenzionati ad approfondire questa tematica. Gli argomenti affrontati saranno relativi alle proprietà fisiche dei minerali, alle metodiche per la loro determinazione, alle applicazioni in campo geologico e pratico. Le lezioni teoriche saranno affiancate da esercitazioni pratiche secondo il programma pubblicato.

1st European Crystallographic School (ECS1)

The ECS1 is directed to young researchers and Ph.D. students involved in different fields of structural sciences, including physics, biology, chemistry, mineralogy, materials science, cultural heritage. It aims at diffusing and sharing the idea of crystallography as a unique discipline: “crystallography is an excellent example of the universality of science”, to cite the Proclamation of 2014 as International Year of Crystallography. The School will provide the students with instruments for acquiring a deep know-how and a strong background on the fundamentals of crystallography. Students will also gain consciousness of progresses, limitations and perspectives of the crystallographic theories and methods, and of how they can be adapted to the different “flavours” of structural science, ranging from small molecule to large macromolecular assemblies. The fil-rouge of the multi-faceted methods to be delivered in this School is to provide students with fundamental interpretative and predictive information and ideas for further scientific developments.
Different facets of crystallography will be explored, and expectations for research in the next century discussed and analysed through a series of reviews from renowned teachers. Such contributions will be collected in the Educational Book associated to the School, with the aim of inspiring and suggesting ideas for novel research projects in crystallography.

EMU School in Planetary Mineralogy

The EMU school will bring together students and researchers from across Europe in a short course on planetary mineralogy. The full course runs from 25th August to 3rd September, but participants can opt to attend specific parts of interest. Deadline for registration is 14th April 2014.
The course is for people with backgrounds including astronomy, space technology, geology, and Earth science. The participants will gain a state of the art understanding of planetary mineralogy, including its development, the main analytical techniques and methodologies, current research questions and future directions. The school will help to forge a community of researchers across Europe who will be responsible for driving planetary science and technology over the coming decades.
The course will be accompanied by volume 15 of EMU Notes in Mineralogy, which will contain chapters produced by each of the teachers. Lecture materials will also be available on the website.

Innovative methodologies for the characterisation, diagnosis and conservation of the Cultural Heritage

The school will have a multi-disciplinary approach and it is directed to graduate and PhD students from different cultural areas (geologists, chemists, physicists, archaeologists) interested in the advancement of knowledge about innovative methodologies for Cultural Heritage.
The goal of the school is the development of knowledges regarding the use of innovative methods for the study of Cultural Heritage focusing on diagnostic and conservation aspects. The topics will dealt considering the different view of geologists, chemists, physicists, archaeologists and conservator scientist for cultural heritage.
In particular the lessons will regard: various methods used at different observations scale for the chemical, mineralogical and structural study of the artifact; the applications of the nanotechnologies for the conservations; the approaches for the study of museum materials also with non destructive analysis.
The experts guided tour of the museum and archaeological site of Siracusa will be a opportunity for discussion about problems and possible solutions regarding the themes of the school.
Part of the last day will be dedicated to the presentation of the students researches.

Nella ricorrenza dell’Anno Internazionale della Cristallografia (IYCr), l’Associazione Micromineralogica Italiana (AMI), di concerto con il Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra e il CrisDi - Centro Interdipartimentale per lo Sviluppo della Cristallografia Diffrattometrica dell’Università di Torino, con il patrocinio della Società Italiana di Mineralogia e Petrografia (SIMP), del Gruppo Nazionale di Mineralogia (GNM), dell’Associazione Italiana di Cristallografia (AIC) e del Comune di Tavagnasco organizza GMT2014 - Giornate Mineralogiche di Tavagnasco:
