3rd International Mortar Dating Workshop

Padova

2014 04 14-16
In keeping with the tradition of the previous two workshops held in Turku/Aland (Finland, 2010) and in Mallorca (Spain, 2012), the 3rd Mortar Dating Workshop to be held in Padova in 2014 wishes to offer a dynamic forum to the scientific community working on historical mortar and plaster dating. It is expected that the leading groups in the field will summarize the results carried out by the method of 14C dating in the last decades, offering a systematic overview of the existing methods and protocols of analysis. Ample space will be devoted to the illustration of state-of-the-art techniques, persisting problems, and future perspectives. Applications to historical mortars and plasters from different ages and geographical areas are welcome. A special session will focus on comparison with other dating techniques, especially those based on stimulated luminescence, TL and alternative methods.
Extended deadline for early bird inscription: 28 february 2014
Extended deadline for abstract submission: 28 february 2014

VI International Conference on Fractals and Dynamic Systems in Geoscience

Perugia (Italy)

2013 09 26
The aim of this conference is to present the latest research and techniques in the application of fractals and dynamic systems to Earth systems, with emphases on predictability of geological risks, natural resources and climate change.
The conference welcomes contributions on all applications of fractals and dynamic systems in the Earth and Environmental Sciences.
Invited Speakers include Shaun Lovejoy (McGill University, CA), Ian Main (The University of Edinburgh, UK), Heinz Otto Peitgen (Jacobs University Bremen, DE), Hans Joachim Schellnhuber (Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, DE), Cristian Suteanu (Saint Mary's University, CA).
The conference will be preceded by three days of workshops aimed at training researchers on the use of fractals and dynamic systems methods and techniques on following topics:
- Anisotropy and Inhomogeneity Quantification of Rock Fabrics (J.H. Kruhl & M. Peternell, Technical University Munich and Johannes Gutenberg Universität Mainz, DE);
- Fractals and Natural Resources (T. Blenkinsop, James Cook University, AU);
- Fractal-Geometry-Based Treatment of Geohazards (C. Suteanu, Saint Mary's University, CA).

EMAC 2013

Padova

2013 09 19-21
The aim of this 12th European Meeting on Ancient Ceramics, in accordance with former edition, is the promotion of the methodological development and use of scientific techniques in the study of archaeological and historical ceramic materials for interpreting and solving issues on provenance, production, usage, conservation, age, and technological changes over times and places. Due to interdisciplinary character of this type of studies, researchers and scholars from both human and science background will share their experience and results obtained in their most recently researches. This would encourage scientists with different expertise to join together in new research projects.
Keeping the traditional themes of former editions, the 12th EMAC will cover the following topics:
- methodological developments;:
- dating ceramics;:
- experimental firing;:
- technology and provenance;:
- alteration and conservation;:
- glazed pottery;:
- ceramics as building materials;:
- technical ceramics.

Set in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Goldschmidt2013 will be able to offer an outstanding science program alongside the oppurtunity to enjoy the many cultural riches the city has to offer. Based in the heart of the city, the Firenze Fiera Congress and Exhibition Centre, will host all the scientific sessions in one complex. Registration, exhibition bookings and accommodation information is also available from the relevant pages on the site. Field trips and some Workshop registrations are also available on the site. Field trips must be booked by April 12th and bookings for workshops will close on June 25th. The members of SIMP are eligible for the member rates as the members of EAG, GS and GSJ. Basalt 2012

Görlitz (Germany)

2013 04 24-28
This Conference will focus on Cenozoic magmatism in Central Europe dealing with multifarious aspects of igneous systems. A main intention will be the communication between scientists with different scientific approach to Cenozoic magmatism. The scientific program will be subdivided into three major features: (1) physical, mineralogical and chemical characteristics of the magma source and melt generation processes, (2) physical, chemical, mineralogical and textural composition of the lithosphere and its interaction with ascending magmas and fluids as well as the development of the fluids itself and (3) volcanism, eruption styles, crystallisation, alteration, growth and decease of volcano edifices. The meeting should highlight the process-oriented and material aspects of within-plate magmatism in Central Europe and adjacent areas from Spain to Ukraine and from Greece to Great Britain. All disciplines of geosciences ranging from geology and physical volcanology, through petrology, mineralogy and geochemistry up to geophysics will be employed. Furthermore, we invite contributions to active magmatic processes, landscape evolution and impact of volcanoes on society (resources, hazards) as well as to the outreach of volcanological sciences to the public (e.g. geotourism). In honour of Prof. K.H. Scheumann (1881-1964) a special attention will be devoted to the 100th anniversary of his polzenite definition. Contributions to melilitic rocks in general and new views of the type localities in Northern Bohemia will be welcome.
